Bert Wendeln is President and CEO of The Carlisle Group (TCG), a boutique international retained executive search and recruitment firm headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. With more than 30 years of experience in executive search, leadership advisory, and entrepreneurship, Bert helps organizations make stronger leadership decisions and build high-performing teams.
A graduate of the John L. Grove School of Business at Shippensburg University, Bert began his career in the Executive Development Program of Norwest Financial Corporation before entering the executive search profession in 1996. In 1997, he and his wife and business partner, Shelly, purchased the start-up search firm that would evolve into The Carlisle Group. Under his leadership, TCG has completed more than 6,500 placements, including over 1,600 C-suite assignments, serving Fortune 500 companies, private equity-backed firms, privately held businesses, founder-led organizations, global enterprises, and nonprofit institutions.
Bert partners with boards, ownership groups, and executive leadership teams on C-suite and senior leadership searches. His approach combines thoughtful discovery, market intelligence, and practical business insight to help clients identify leaders who align with strategy, culture, and long-term business goals. As a certified EQ-i 2.0 Assessor, he also brings a behavioral and emotional intelligence lens to leadership evaluation.
An important part of Bert’s work—and of The Carlisle Group’s long-term success—has been a relationship-driven approach grounded in trust, integrity, and authenticity. He believes the strongest partnerships are built through honesty, discretion, and a genuine commitment to serving clients and candidates well over the long term.
Bert also brings specialized expertise within the evolving MGA, MGU, Program Administrator, and Wholesale Brokerage sectors of the insurance industry. Beyond executive search, he is also an entrepreneur with hands-on operating experience, having helped launch and grow multiple business ventures, including the development of an 18,100-square-foot commercial greenfield project in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
Today, Bert continues to lead The Carlisle Group with a focus on retained executive search, leadership recruitment, and long-term client partnership. He believes great organizations are built by great people—and that identifying those leaders requires experience, judgment, discipline, and a deep understanding of business.
